Q. Can I purchase Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film directly from 3M?

A. 3M and Ventureshield sell larger rolls of film to selected Authorized Distributors and Converters and not to end consumers. 3M does not manufacture vehicle-specific film kits nor does 3M install kits on consumer vehicles. Inspire Automotive Solutions is a Certified 3M clear bra installer and is listed on the company website here: 3M Certified Installer. Please search St: CA, City: Cerritos.

Q. Can I install Scotchgard™, Ventureshield or Xpel Paint Protection Film myself?

A. Clear Bra Pro and 3M strongly recommend that Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield clear bra Paint Protection Film be installed by a fully trained and accredited, 3M professional certified installer. We only employ skilled certified installers in applying the film around compound curves, challenging grillwork, wheel openings, bumpers and all other areas on today's vehicles. The risk of ruining the expensive paint protection film and having to replace it also deters many consumers from attempting their own installation.

Q. Will there be a two-tone effect if the film is ever removed?

A. As long as the uncovered portions of the paint were regularly wash and waxed, then there should be no indication that film was ever installed if it is ever removed.

Q. Is the application of the clear bra film permanent?

A. This is the benefit of paint protection film. It is not a permanent application; however, does require professional removal.

Q. I don’t like to see the line on the hood, can you cover the entire hood?

A. Yes, on some vehicles we can. We are one of a few companies that stock 58" Master Rolls for entire panels. For vehicles with longer hoods, the 58" custom application would be more than sufficient as it would cover anywhere from 90%-100% of these hoods.

Common Questions

Q. Do I need to prep the car before installation?

A. We would greatly appreciate it if your vehicle is not covered in excessive dirt / debris. Otherwise, we will do the proper prep work.

Q. What can be done about wax build up along the seams and how can I avoid it?

A. Most installers do not inform their customers about the “wax lines”. It is important for the vehicle’s owner to understand that wax will leave a white line on the seam. We would recommend not waxing over the seams and waxing the film and uncovered portions separately to keep from wax build up. If you accidentally wax over the seam, just use a wet towel and rub it off. Another caution is to avoid buffing over the seams, which creates a noticeable wax line as well.

Q. Can I see a line where the film stops?

A. A slight line is barely visible at certain angles where the film stops.

Q. How hard is it to see after clear bra is applied?

A. The film is over 99.5% clear. On any color darker than bright white, you can’t see the film. On a stark white car, you can see less than 0.5% of color, which is from the adhesive.

Q. Will the paint fade differently under the film than the rest of the car?

A. No. The material contains UV inhibitors to prevent the film from reacting to the sun's rays, but still allows a certain amount to filter through the material and onto the surface to let the paint “age” with the rest of the vehicle.

Q. Will Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film harm the painted surface

if the film is removed?

A. If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film.

Q. Can Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film be applied over a vehicle

that has had the paint touched up?

A. Clear Bra Pro, 3M and Ventureshield recommend that any repainted surfaces on your vehicle be professionally painted and fully cured before applying paint protection film. If you have touched up scratches or chips with a tube of "touch-up" paint and then apply paint protection film over it, the film will protect that area until it is removed. If the paint protection film is removed, it is possible that the area around the non-professional touch-up paint could peel off.

Q. Will the paint smear if Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film is applied

over a newly painted vehicle?

A. The paint on a newly painted vehicle must be cured according to manufacturer's recommendations. Your body shop should be able to provide you with this information. However, WE CANNOT WARRANTY THE PAINT NOT LIFTING OFF OF ANY REPAINTED CARS. As long as the paint is fully cured, the film will not lift the paint off of the vehicle. We have serviced several repaints and removed film from them. We have also removed film from other cars that have had film lift off of the surface because of a poor quality paint job. Application of the Paint Protection Film is at the risk of the owner.

Q. Can you paint or apply a clearcoat over the Scotchgard™ or

Ventureshield Paint Protection Film?

A. No, this is not recommended and is at your own risk. 3M film is supplied with an OEM-approved clearcoat which is not formulated to be over-printed, painted or clearcoated.

Q. Can I cover the whole vehicle with Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film?

A. Although this product is really intended for the most vulnerable areas of the vehicle, we offer coverage on almost any panel or part on any vehicle. We also offer custom protection according to your specifications and offer competitive pricing with .

Q. Can 3M Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film be applied over graphics?

A. The clear film will not interfere with vinyl or painted graphics and is designed to match the gloss levels of today's automotive factory clearcoat paint systems, providing virtually invisible protection. However, if the Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film is removed, damage may occur to the underlying graphic during the removal process.

Q. Does 3M Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film resist yellowing?

A. Yes, it resists yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable material that is covered by a clear coat layer. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protectants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing.

Q. How long should I wait before washing my car after 3M Scotchgard™or

Ventureshield clear bra is installed?

A. Once applied, refrain from washing the vehicle in an automated car wash for 48 hours. Washing after that time presents no problem, and no special care need be taken for the film.

Maintenance

Q. Can I use wax over Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film?

A. Yes. When waxing the vehicle, some wax may build up along the film edges. This can easily be removed when dry with a soft cloth. Do not use any waxes containing dyes or waxes that are not recommended for urethanes. Abrasive polishes and/or rubbing compounds are not to be used. For 3M Clear Bra we recommend Zymol Field Glaze, Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax (paste wax only), Turtle Wax Ice (liquid wax only). For Ventureshield Clear Bra we recommend using Plexus Plastic Cleaner only.

Q. How is Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film removed?

A. If desired, the film can be removed at any time by picking up a corner of the film and pulling the film off the vehicle surface at a 90-degree angle. If the film has been present a long time, or if the film and vehicle are cold, a heat gun or hair dryer may be used to soften the adhesive, allowing easier removal. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M Part #08984), according to the package directions. If you are uncomfortable removing the film on your own, please contact us for immediate support.

Q. If Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film is removed from the vehicle,

can it be re-used?

A. Once the film has been applied and set, the adhesive will not stick a second time.

Q. After Scotchgard™ or Ventureshield Paint Protection Film has been removed,

how do I get any excess adhesive off my vehicle?

A. If any adhesive remains on the vehicle after removal of the film, it can be removed by using 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (3M Part #08984), according to the package directions.
